A Letter from St. Andrew’s Music Ministry, with links for devotional music
Dear Friends,
April brings the most important days of the church year. These liturgical days of Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Day make up Holy Week. Thursday through Saturday also comprise the Easter Triduum, where we tell the story of our faith through spoken word, music, tradition, and sacrament. We walk with Jesus through his entry into the Holy City on the donkey, the first celebration of the Eucharist, his passion and death, and his glorious resurrection. Truly, our Christian faith hinges on these most special days.
As you can likely imagine, there has been untold volumes of choral music, instrumental music, and congregational song written for these remarkable observances. I always find it so difficult to narrow down the music that we can share together in our services during this time of the year. While we have the opportunity to sing and hear much music in church during Holy Week, there is always so much left that we just cannot include for various reasons. During this month, I encourage you to listen on YouTube to hymns and choral music to help further observe this time. A quick Google search provided two diverse sets of choral music:For the second set of music,
While the above playlists may be helpful for your personal devotion, nothing replaces being in church and community together singing the hymns of the season and hearing music for choir and instruments. We learned this particularly during the pandemic.I hope you will make plans now to join us throughout Holy Week and Eastertide for services at St. Andrew’s.I especially invite you to come on Easter Day.The choir plans to sing at the 9:00 and 11:15 AM services.
Let us join in community to worship our crucified and risen Lord.
Blessings,
Justin Smith
